Flash and in particular, Papervision, continue to push the boundaries of three dimensional environments on the Web. The Eco Zoo is a recent creation by creative agency McCann Erickson which demonstrates how it is now possible to develop a fully immersive and navigable 360-degree landscape. Each character in the Eco Zoo has its own pop-up book which really comes to life as you navigate and view each page from multiple angles.

What will tennis look like in the year 2083? With some creative video, motion graphics and Flash, here’s what it might look like in the eyes of Lacoste as they celebrate their 75th anniversary. With the explosion of video on the Web over the past 12 months and knowing that the majority of Web users have Flash player installed on their machines, more and more companies are turning to video to tell their stories and sell their products to consumers. This site also invites users to share their personal visions of the future which, when submitted, can be read out aloud by different voices and posted into a futuristic space field where submitted quotes move towards the user.

We’ve picked out Section Seven’s “Cabinet of Works” simply because of the innovative navigation system. The design agency’s portfolio can be accessed via a series of three dimensional pages that unfold to reveal a beautiful body of work. There’s always a danger when new navigation is created in Flash, but Section Seven have developed something both usable yet engaging.

Another site demonstrating innovative navigation. Using overlapping content arranged in a circle takes up less real estate on screen, and as the user clicks and drags items from the portfolio circle, each project opens up with more information and multiple screenshots. This really is a tidy and succinct way to organize a lot of content, and the case studies, video and design of each project is worth a close look.

Practical with a serious purpose, but brilliantly executed, Apoteket’s Kid’s Cold Aid is an interactive way to find out if your child simply has a cold or something more serious which may require a visit to a doctor. The genius part of this interface is the simplicity. It’s designed in Flash as though the device could be created and made available in real life, with interaction performed via a series of simple “yes” and “no” answers .

VodaFone Journey

This Web site may be a couple of years old now, but it still stands head-and-shoulders above most other interactive Web sites. This was one of the first Web projects to be shot entirely in HD, and the success of VodaFone Journey is the combination of stunning motion graphics, magnificent and easy to understand navigation, and informative content. The real-life case studies of customers is a great example of how well multimedia can be used to tell stories and provide information to users/customers.

Virtual Knee Surgery

Another golden oldie, but a much favored classic. Edheads’ Virtual Knee Surgery features stylized cartoon illustrations and animations which help train, educate and inform users how to perform surgery. Allowing users to interact with a series of questions and ‘hands-on’ tasks makes this such a compelling and enjoyable experience. It’s no wonder this site has won many awards!

Design agency North Kingdom have produced one of the most stunning examples of motion graphics and online interactive gaming with the Get the Glass Web site. Meet the Adachi family and follow them around the island with the ultimate aim of breaking into Fort Fridge and stealing back their much loved and much missed glass of milk!

The navigation system on the Our Vice Web site really draws you in. Every project from this design agency appears on its own face of on an endless-sided cube, so as you navigate through each project, the cube rotates to reveal more and more information about each design piece. Subtle text effects and animations also add to this site. Overall however, this is a very simple yet very slick way to organize and navigate content.

Based on the award winning commercials created by motion graphic giants Psyop, Coca Cola commissioned a Flash Web site based entirely on the environment and world full of characters found within those adverts. Although this Web site is entirely in German, the use of parallax scrolling and video is worth checking out. The horizontal navigation is simple to understand and the user can be educated through a series of fast loading video content. This site is by no means groundbreaking but employs a series of well known Flash effects that work together well as a whole to provide the user with an easy to navigate experience.

Car manufacturers have been pushing the possibilities of Flash for their Web sites for many, many years. We’ve picked out the Toyota Yaris Virtual Test Drive as an example of a very creative Web site because it’s a very comprehensive online experience. The premise if the site is to choose your car and then take it for a drive. Very nice use of video with multiple camera angles make this an ideal way to to see a car in action. It’s the ultimate ‘try before you buy‘.

This is an incredibly simple Web site all things considered, but the beauty and uniqueness is in the fact that Proxonic use highly effective graphics and video to grab your attention. This site shows how possible it is to create a dynamic looking site without the need for loud music and intense visuals. Instead, Proxonic Visuals overpower and impress through their subtlety.

If you’re going to sell products on a Web site then navigation is essential. Uniqlo showcases one of the best Flash e-commerce experiences by displaying multiple products on the same page simultaneously so you are really able to find and compare items and shop around and find what you are looking for. When you select an item you get an incredible close up of the image that loads and zooms in very quickly. Also, the transition effect between each section/item based on the previous garment you viewed is simply awe inspiring and very creative.

One of the most unique and common forms of art on the Internet these days is called concept art.

Concept art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and/or mood for use in movies, video games, animation, or comic books before it is put into the final product.

The concept artist generates a visual design for something that doesn’t yet exist.

Most of these pieces are created with Photoshop as well as using more traditional means such as oil paints, pencils and others. The two most common themes are science fiction and fantasy.
